The Institute for Business and Industrial Statistics at the University of Amsterdam is a research and consultancy group owned by the University of Amsterdam. The interaction between scientific research on the one hand and the application of technology in business and industry on the other hand are what the institute sees as its core:
- Research focuses on statistical methods for the improvement of quality and efficiency and on the business economics context of quality and efficiency improvements.
- Consultancy focuses on lending support during the implementation of Lean Six Sigma programmes, during which period the institute plays the role of Master Black Belt (project support, training, programme support).
IBIS UvA supports initiatives for improving quality and efficiency based on its expertise in the field of statistical methodology. IBIS UvA has more than 10 years of experience with Six Sigma and has supported (Lean) Six Sigma initiatives at General Electric Plastics, Douwe Egberts, DAF Trucks, Perlos, LG. Philips Displays, Philips Lighting, Getronics, TNT Post, Achmea Pensioens, ABN AMRO Bank, Wolters Kluwer, NedTrain, Rode Kruis Hospital, Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital, Virga Jesse Hospital, and many more Dutch and international organisations.
The institute is owned by the University of Amsterdam and is seen internationally as a centre of expertise for Lean Six Sigma and industrial statistics. The members of the institute frequently publish papers in international scientific journals and in professional literature. Members of the institute are the authors of a number of books about Lean Six Sigma and Statistical Process Control. The quality of the research carried out by the institute is reflected by the awards won by institute members.
